Careful readers will note that my name and photo appear alongside this column. Inside this section, you'll find op-ed pieces and letters with the writers' names, hometowns in many cases bona fides attached. But if you go to any of the Times Union's vast armada of blogs, you'll discover that the majority of comments are left by people cloaking their identities behind anonymous handles ranging in wit from "joeyboots" to "Office of Ganja Services." Many of their comments are passionate and cogent; far too many contain nothing but reflexive partisan screeching.
