Fed: Government warns of possible terrorist attacks in Thailand
CANBERRA, April 10 AAP - Australians in Thailand were today warned there could be terrorist
attacks during traditional Thai New Year celebrations.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said Thai authorities were concerned
explosives which had been stolen in Southern Thailand could be used during the Songkran
water festival.
The festival runs until April 15.
"Australians should be particularly vigilant during this time," a DFAT travel advisory said.
The travel advisory said DFAT was continuing to receive reports that terrorists in
the region were planning attacks.
"Australians in Thailand, including Phuket, Pattaya and other tourist resorts, should
exercise extreme caution," it said.
Australians in Thailand were urged to exercise caution in commercial and public areas
known to be frequented by foreigners and around buildings associated with foreign governments."
